Escalator down – 42nd Street

I am not anywhere near the bottom of the laziness curve. But what possible justification is there for a person who is not an invalid or otherwise unable to move for standing still on a down escalator?

Why, to block everyone’s way and make all the type-A new yorkers slow down and smell the flowers (or whatever peculiar odor happens to be emanating from the 42nd street station..)
