Cheney still Vice President

Regarding the U.S. Attorneys “scandal,” Orin Kerr reminds us of a weensy point: “U.S. Attorneys are political appointees who serve at the pleasure of the President, and the press seems to overlook that in a lot of its reporting.” Shocking, right? Clinton fired everyone — or worse. What possible scandal can there be to letting some of them (the vast majority of them) stay on?
It’s not that? It’s the fact that congressmen wanted things to happen prosecution-wise? Shocking, too. I’m sure everyone agrees what we need instead is lots of special prosecutors. They end up making everyone happy. And bipartisan? All the way!
Oh, I know. They’re calling for Gonzalez‘s resignation over this, not Cheney’s. Same difference.

UPDATE: More of the underwhelmed.

If Gonzalez really were the CEO of the analogous major corporation he keeps comparing DOJ to, his Board would have canned him long, long ago. The guy is either a liar or a dope — whichever it is, no corporation would have kept him on this long.

Ara, I reject the premise that any corporation would have even hired him. It was an utterly uninspired choice. Cronyism is perhaps this Administration’s biggest weakness — especially when it comes to the law side.

Remember when we were assured that MBA/CEO Bush would surround himself with the best minds …? I recall, at the time, Dennis Miller snarking that it was like the donut hole saying he’d surround himself with the donut.
Ah, those were the days.

LOL — what happened to Dennis Miller? He came over to our side after that, but I haven’t heard from him in years. Coincidence?

Minor nitpick.
Also, while the firings may be ethically dubious, the real problem seems to be the lying or incompetence.

Now THERE was a bad career move.
“I do have confidence in AG Al Gonzales,” Bush said during a joint news conference…
Crikey. That’s usually what they say about you just before the bottom drops out. Less than a month after he said that about Rumsfeld, he was toast.
