Since he’s in Japan he’s in the right place for culinary weirdness. The Japanese pride themselves on stuffing newbie “gaijin” with all the weird stuff they can think of. I’ve had a few of the things her brother mentioned, although the “fugu” pufferfish was too expensive to be wasted on me. Still I had squid jerky, octopus fingerlings and that ox tongue – all in one sitting. It made me feel like I had just stepped into the best episode of Survivor.
