59th Street Bridge with yacht

59th Street Bridge with yacht
It was perfect weather in Manhattan and during the late afternoon I had to slip out and decompress along the East River around 51st Street, where there’s a pedestrian bridge that goes over a local “dog park” and over the FDR Drive to a set of benches on the water.

The brackish water does me a lot of good, and whiile it’s not exactly quiet, the white noise generated by the passing cars on the FDR — punctuated by booming renditions of urban Top 40 — will, if you are a city mouse, substitute quite nicely for silence.

All and all a bracing diversion just a few blocks from the office.

I am so glad I found a way to make it to INTA this year, because I spent three years in law school living in Chicago, and I had forgotten what a great city this is. I suppose the only rationale I can figure I had for leaving was that New York is ultimately home for me and I believed that, well, if you can make it there you can make it anywhere.

No one told me what happens if you can’t make it there. (I found out.)
