Dish delish?

Freeman Hunt:

I don’t think I’d want to eat a food item that resembled me. Further, I don’t think I’d want to watch a room full of people eating bits of food that resembled bits of me.

A fortiori, the likes of me.

Velvety

Posted by Ron Coleman on January 10, 2008

This morning my voice is a nice, velvety baritone. Meaning, of course, that there’s a bunch of spit hanging onto my second-tenor pipes. I don’t know if this means the end of the last cold, the beginning of a new one, or if at age 44 my voice has finally finished changing.

But, gosh, I like it this way.

I think I would just be so much more effective as a person if I had a deep voice. And, you know, happier, too. I just love the sound of the opening verse of Lou Rawls’s “You’ll Never Find'” — he just scoops up that “You’ll Never Find” with that beautiful vocal tone and yes! That’s where I want to be.the-jewish-partner.jpg

This morning, I almost am.

Baby.

Mee-yow!

Posted by Ron Coleman on January 9, 2008

Katherine Coble decries the phenomenon of “the en vogue idea of having your own pet Gay Man®”:

Having a gay male friend to be funny with you and boost your self-esteem is sort of like having a Jewish friend to balance your checkbook or a black friend to play basketball with.

Oh, gosh, don’t mention the checkbook part to my wife. She’ll think she married out. Actually, I’d have the gay guy do the checking, the black guy provide the one-liners, and, of course, the (other) Jewish guy to play basketball with. Because he can’t jump any higher than I can.

And, no, I don’t know any gay Jewish black men.  Almost, but not quite.

Dutch treat

Posted by Ron Coleman on December 27, 2007

This is so wild you have to see it to believe it. I have seen it, in fact, and I still don’t believe it.

An official Dutch government production?! Are we being scammed?

And as laughing matters go… if things were now going the way they were six months ago in Iraq… would this have been made? (Via Insty.)

LOL such a typical [Friend] moment!

J: let’s try to talk today…
R: sure

If I didn’t love you like a brother it would sure look manipulative — as if you want or need to talk, but having gotten me to now suggest that we actually do, you’ll see if you “have some downtime.”

But I do love you like a brother and I’m delighted you’re so busy. Call if you do have the time. 😉

He did call, and it was very special!  On the other hand, I can’t reprint what he wrote back.

And who exactly did invent spaghetti, anyway?

Posted by Ron Coleman on December 27, 2007

Lynn B:

Last week (or was it the week before?) presidential candidate Mike Huckabee published his much maligned foreign policy statement in Foreign Affairs magazine. In it, he attributed this quote to the 4th century Chinese military strategist, Sun-Tsu: “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.”

Embarrassingly, SeeDubya at Junkyard Blog pointed out that the quote, while sometimes erroneously attributed to Sun-Tsu, actually appears to have originated (rather more recently) with Michael Corleone.

Yeah, but who among us doesn’t mix those two guys up all the time?!

The “Talk”

Posted by Ron Coleman on December 26, 2007

There’s none of us with kids — especially boys — who don’t get all choked up when we consider … the “Talk.”

“Plain talk on Obama”

Posted by Ron Coleman on December 24, 2007

More “best of.”

Last spring I called out Obama and asked everyone to open their eyes and acknowledge what he was:

All right, I’ll admit it.

Look, Obama’s playing on being a minority group member. Well, let’s face it; he is. And let’s look at that minority, shall we?

We know what they’re all about, and so do they. Very well. Their culture openly, unabashedly celebrates who they really are. Substance abuse? Check. Violence? Infamous. Hostility to Anglo-Saxon values? Not a little — a lot. Just ask any one of ’em and stay the hell clear.

Sure, they’ve developed their own language, put English to their own unique rhythm — but so subversively! They claim to commemorate their cultural heritage but they do it all over our streets. These folks are not going back, and they’re not really assimilating.

Yes, damn it, I will admit it. I say to hell with another Irish president!
